Surgery Rescheduled...

So, after the surgeon kept Dorene on basically surgical hold all day where she wasn't allowed to eat in case they did the surgery, at around 3:30pm Idaho time they finally said the surgery was rescheduled for Tuesday morning Jan. 25th.

They will start prep at 7am and surgery is scheduled to start around 8am.  It should last a couple of hours and Matt will call me when Dorene is in recovery and he has seen her.  The good news is that Matt spoke extensively to the surgeon about how difficult this procedure was on Dorene last time and how they overdosed her on meds which added to the complications and extended stay at the hospital.  This time they are going to approach the surgery/procedure much more conservatively.  They will give Dorene an epidural so she doesn't need as many meds and they can introduce pain meds gently, they are doing a CT scan tonight to map out the area so that the Dr. knows exactly what he is getting into, they will use a video scope and two entrance tubes which will allow them to move more gently and slowly through the procedure.  They will then move Dorene into the critical care unit so she can have the best attention they can offer post-op.

Added to this the lung stopped draining today which is good as that intense irritation won't be as present tomorrow during the procedure... having the area as dry as possible is good.  Dorene was hungry and ate a Tuna Sandwich and was able to keep it down.  They are also moving away from the heavier medications which added to Dorene's nausea and general poor feelings.

Without the added trauma she went through last time she could recover much faster than before and though the recovery is challenging and difficult once past that Dorene could see a better qualify of life so we are feeling optimistic.

I told Dorene that we have a world wide prayer chain going for her to recover quickly and she liked that very much. :-)  We all appreciate all the love and prayers sent our way. :-)

I'll post tomorrow once I hear from Matt...

Love,
Dorene's Sister
Deborah
